The LVSES Center for Integrative Medicine and Pain Management provides comprehensive, integrative medicine & pain management services for pet owners and small animal veterinarians in the Greater Louisville region.  In February of 2009 Dr. Tom Day became Credentialed Pain Practitioner, an honor that that is held by a few select veterinarians around the country.  As a Credentialed Pain Practitioner, he is trained in the most advanced methods & theories of treatment.  It is this integrative training and knowledge in both Eastern and Western pain management disciplines that allows him to practice pain management from a whole body approach and also serves as the foundation for the Center.

Integrative Medicine

Background:

Integrative Medicine is defined as the practice of both standard, traditional veterinary medicine (also called Western veterinary medicine) and Chinese veterinary medicine (also called Eastern veterinary medicine). Integrative medicine is currently taught in every human medical school and is becoming a common practice in human medicine.  Unfortunately, integrative medicine is currently only taught in 25% of Veterinary schools across the country.

How does Integrative Medicine Work:

Traditional veterinary medicine identifies and treats specific diseases. Chinese veterinary medicine identifies imbalances in the entire body and strives to put the entire body back in balance. The combination of traditional and Chinese veterinary medicine offers the best possible care for our patients!

There are two major components of Chinese veterinary medicine- acupuncture and herbal therapy. Dr. Tom Day is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturists and has an active and popular acupuncture service at LVSES.

Here at LVSES, we consider the practice of Integrative Veterinary Medicine another tool to provide the best possible care to our patients!
