What is Louisville Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Services (LVSES)?
Louisville Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Services is the specialty and emergency medical center of choice for tens of thousands of pet owners and their primary care veterinarians. Our hospital, located in eastern Jefferson County is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to meet your pet's specialty and emergency care needs. We are dedicated to providing excellent care to our patients and excellent service to pet owners and their primary care veterinarians.
Who is a veterinary specialist?
A board-certified veterinary specialist has completed up to 12 years of college education and training. Louisville Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Services has numerous board-certified specialists on staff. Each has graduated from a four-year veterinary program and then has gone on to complete an additional four years of training in an internship and residency program. To become board-certified, these candidates must also pass rigorous training and testing requirements.
A residency trained doctor is a veterinarian who has completed all of the requirements for board certification and is currently either awaiting their exam results of they are waiting to take their specialty exam which is typically only offered annually.
The LVSES team includes board certified or Residency trained veterinarians in Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Dermatology, Anesthesia, Surgery, Pain Management and Emergency and Critical Care. We are also a teaching hospital for some of the nation's top veterinarians seeking advanced training and we have an excellent support staff of licensed veterinary technicians, experienced veterinary assistants and client service associates.
Why would my pet need to go to LVSES?
Your primary care veterinarian will refer you and your pet to our hospital if your pet requires specific testing, treatments or procedures that he/she is not experienced in, does not offer or that can improve the quality of life for your pet. No other facility in the Kentuckianna Region offers the range and depth of surgical procedures, testing equipment and diagnostic capabilities as LVSES. In addition to the highly experienced medical staff, LVSES also has state-of-the-art, highly specialized equipment including ultrasonography, endoscopy, CT scan imaging, fluoroscopy, off site MRI, laparoscopy and video otoscopy.
Can LVSES be my regular veterinary clinic?
No, our practice only provides specialty and emergency services. To most effectively manage your pet's health, Louisville Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Services works directly with your regular veterinarian on a referral basis. Referrals make it easier for the LVSES team to coordinate the most comprehensive level of care for your pet.
If you have a health concern, please contact your primary care veterinarian. He or she will determine whether an office visit is necessary or if your pet should be referred immediately to one of our specialists. Your veterinarian will then complete a referral form (available on our web site www.lvses.com) and ask you to contact us to make an appointment. Please be sure your veterinarian provides us with a copy of your pet's medical history. This can be sent to us by fax or given to you to bring in on the day of your appointment.
If your pet's condition is an emergency, you or your veterinarian should contact our emergency department to arrange immediate care.
Will my veterinarian be updated?
The partnership between you, your veterinarian and our medical team is essential and helps ensure the most comprehensive care possible for your pet. Our team of doctors keeps both you and your veterinarian updated as to your pet's condition.
