Echocardiography

Echocardiography is ultrasound of the heart. Heart disease and heart failure are very common emergency presentations in dogs and cats. Heart failure is one of the most common reasons for breathing problems in dogs and cats.

Ultrasound can identify the exact cause and severity of heart failure. LVSES uses the General Electric Logic 5 ultrasound system by Sound System Technologies, the only manufacturer of ultrasound equipment with a department dedicated to the veterinary profession, to provide detailed images of the heart. The superior images and echocardiographic technology permits the echocardiographer the ability to perform exact measurements of the heart to help determine the severity of heart disease and to help determine the most appropriate treatment. Congenital heart defects can also be identified in puppies and kittens.

Dr. Tom Day has a strong interest in echocardiography including common heart diseases in dogs and cats and identification of congenital heart defects.
