Ultrasound is becoming a standard and routine piece of equipment for use on the emergency service, regardless of the time of day. Ultrasound can help determine abnormal findings on x-rays and, in some instances, can replace x-ray for diagnosis of various problems. Common examples include problems with the heart and  internal organs such as the spleen, liver and kidneys.
