Surgery is commonly required to be performed on an emergency basis
when your regular veterinarian is not available. LVSES has the
capability to perform nearly all emergency surgeries in dogs and
cats. The most common emergency surgeries performed include removal
of foreign objects from the stomach and/or intestines (as shown above- a string in the intestines of a dog), dog and cat
bite wounds, twisted stomachs in large breeds of dogs (also called
bloat or torsion), internal bleeding of the abdomen or damage of
the chest wall associated with any kind of trauma and removal of
tumors within the abdomen.
LVSES is able to contact a board certified surgeon for surgery of
the spine and spinal cord. We are able to adequately stabilize pets
with spinal cord problems, but do not routinely perform thyis type
of surgery.
LVSES does not perform spays and neuters on dogs and cats.
Orthopedic surgery is also not performed, though LVSES can
stabilize fractured bones until your regular veterinarian can be
contacted.
