Dr. Tom Day is the owner of LVSES. He is a 1988 graduate of The Ohio
State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his
Masters degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Ohio State in
1992 at the same time he completed his residency in Veterinary
Anesthesiology. He became a diplomate (board certified) in the American College of Veterinary
Anesthesiologists in 1993. He spent five years as the Section Head of
Anesthesia and Emergency/Critical Care at Mississippi State
University College of Veterinary Medicine prior to coming to
Louisville. He became a diplomate (board certified) of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 1998, the same year LVSES opened it's doors in Middletown!!
Dr. Day is a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network
(www.vin.com) and continues to be active in the Veterinary
Emergency and Critical Care Society (www.veccs.org) and the
American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care
(www.acvecc.org). He has published many scientific articles and
book chapters in the veterinary literature. Dr. Day is an active member of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and is currently a member of the board certification examination committee. He is an active member of the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society that conducts an annual scientific meeting each September. Dr. Day provides lectures and conducts laboratories for emergency veterinarians at the annual meeting each year since 2000.
LVSES is an approved Residency Training Center for the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Medicine since 1999. This means that several of the doctors are training to become specialists in emergency and critical care medicine. Many doctors have completed the program in the past and several are board certified emergency veterinarians around the country. A resident is a doctor who is focused on emergency and critical care medicine and is highly trained in this area.
Dr. Day has had the honor of speaking to veterinarians on an international basis. He has provided lectures in Sweden and Greece and has spoken to Japanese and Korean veterinarians (via translation) at the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association annual meeting. He enjoys public speaking and has provided lectures locally, regionally and across the country.
Dr. Day has authored two books that are currently available. The
first is a veterinary book entitled ECG Interpretation in the Critically
Ill Dog and Cat which was published by Blackwell Publishing.
This book has been translated and distributed in several languages: Japanese, Polish, Spanish and Italian! The second is a book for pet owners entitled The Pet Lover's Guide to First Aid
and Emergencies. This book has recently been translated in Russian!! It is available at major book stores
and through Amazon.com or the publisher's website at
elsevier.com.
Most recently, he completed the
certification for veterinary acupuncture and is a certified veterinary acupuncturist.
